A little FYI. An entity doesn't have to be a non-profit to have an impact on its targeted area of economic development. All economic development takes money. It just depends on your structure and income sources. Non-profits rely primarily on government grants to reach their goals. For profits rely on the generosity of its supporters for its results. (Heck, Non-profits are technically allowed to pay themselves and their staff a salary)
The goal of Backroadswv.com has always been one of bringing awareness to the wonders that WV has to offer the riding community as well as promoting our fabulous mom and pop businesses. Please don't mistake our choice of a corporate structure as a for-profit over non-profit as one of selfish desire. As a for-profit we are free from government intrusions into the way we operate. (As anyone that's ever been involved in a government funded program knows the bureaucracy inhibits its success.)
As far as the profit goes... Backroads of WV is on a 5 yr plan to operate out of the red. Every penny that goes into the Backroads WV account currently is spent immediately on new merchandise, advertising, graphic development, legal fees, online promotion and web development. (Backroads WV is 100% funded by my day job and is at least 40k upside-down, but we have a wonderful stock of merchandise and growing)
Your support of this enterprise helps us lift small businesses on our backroads and brings awareness to the regional and its people. The traffic you create when you visit WV to see the rides and establishments we promote has a huge economic impact. Your continued support helps us meet those objectives and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
